I just wanted to share a few photos from our trip to California.  We first visited San Francisco for a few days, and then drove to Muir Woods.  From Muir woods we traveled up the coast, heading inland where the Russian River meets the Pacific Ocean.  We spent the rest of the time in both the Sonoma and Napa Valley regions.  It was amazing, and I cannot even begin to detail all the gorgeous places we visited in just one blog post.  So, consider this a teaser to a few more posts about our whirl wind vacation to California.

Hope you enjoy these snapshots!

driftwood beach…

Last weekend was amazing, and I wanted to share a few pictures with everyone. I went away for two days on a girls’ weekend trip to Saint Simons Island, GA. We took a day trip on Sunday to Jekyll Island to check out Driftwood Beach. The views were breathtaking. We only stayed for a very short time because we had to drive back home to Florida.

I think I’ll definitely take another trip out there. Both Jekyll Island and Saint Simons Island felt like hidden gems just off the Georgia shore.  There was a quaintness and tranquility blanketing the islands.  Everywhere you turned, people on bicycles were making their way either to the pier, the lighthouse, or just taking a ride to enjoy the unspoiled nature of the islands.

What also made the trip so spectacular were the special friends that I was able to go with.  A big thank you for making it such a fun and relaxing weekend!

apple orchards and farmer’s market…

We finally had cooler weather last weekend.  It reminded me of our recent trip to the mid-west.  And, so, I was inspired to post some more pictures from that trip.  And, here they are!

Lots of beautiful apples and pumpkins at Rendleman’s in Alto Pass, IL.  This was a fun little day trip, driving through the country side lined with apple orchards.  As I mentioned in a earlier post, I’d never seen an apple tree before.  The trees were full and harvesting had already started.  As you can see in one of the pictures above, one row of trees was already picked.

I wish that the leaves had started to turn shades of yellow, red, and orange.  Unfortunately, were there too early to see the change.  I can only imagine how beautiful it must look at this moment.  We don’t see the change in seasons here in Florida, and this is the only time of year I wish I could spend more time further North.

Where do you live?  Is the weather starting to change, along with the leaves?

St Louis, Columbia, & Carbondale via Instagram

I just wanted to share some pictures of our recent trip to Columbia, MO, St. Louis, MO, and Carbondale, IL.  As you can see from the pictures, we packed in as much as we could while visiting family.  Here are some highlights of the trip…

University of Missouri vs. University of Central Florida @ Mizzou – The Mizzou Tigers love their footfall and have a gorgeous stadium.  I enjoyed visiting the small college town of Columbia, with unique eateries and local boutiques.

Hermann, MO – A quick stop to this predominately German town left me wishing I could return for their Octoberfest.  The tour at Stone Hill Winery was amazing and I took some amazing pictures in their cellar.  I’ll share those pictures in a future post.  Not to give it all away, but there is a giant wine barrel that is pre-prohibition.  I’m not much of a drinker, but I loved the architecture of the cellar and the history behind the business that still stands there today.  Another wonderful spot in Hermann was the Wurst Haus.  Can you say Bratwurst?  Can you say pretzel bun?  Seriously delicious!

St. Louis, MO – This was a whirl wind trip packed into just a few short days.  Mike’s cousin and aunt live in the city.  We went to a few local breweries, Urban Chestnut and Schlafly.  Anheuser Bush is also headquartered in the area and we toured the Budweiser facility.  I really didn’t partake in the beer drinking, it’s not my thing.  But, I did enjoy seeing the unique local breweries and, the best part of Budweiser, the Clydesdale horses.  Last, but definitely not least, we ate some great food.  Mission Taco and Pi Pizza were my favorite restaurants of the trip.  Oh, and, the Arch is so cool.

Carbondale, IL – Mike’s parents and another aunt live in this cute town, home of Southern Illinois University.  This visit included everything from wineries, national parks, lodges, apple orchards, to a farmer’s market.  I know you won’t believe this, but I saw an apple tree for the very first time near the Rendleman Farmer’s Market.  There was an entire apple orchard and I thought it was the coolest thing to see how loaded the trees get.  (Hey!  Don’t laugh, I’m from Florida and all I’ve seen growing up was Orange groves.)  There was so many great highlights and I can’t condense it all here.  So, I’ll have to do an extra post to share some of the sights.

That was a quick snap shot of the trip.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Vacation Epic Fail

Vacation. The longs days at work always seem much more bearable thanks to a little day dreaming. Counting down the days, hours, and minutes until that special getaway. We plan for it, sometimes we pray for it, and, so, I’ll say it again, vacation.

This summer, a short trip to the gold coast of Florida was on the itinerary. A couple of days in Sarasota and a few more days in Naples. The idea of being able to sit in the sun and listen to the slow, soft waves of the gulf was thrilling. The fresh air and white powdery beach sand was all I thought about for days.

Vacation epic fail? I forgot two of the most important items on my list…my toothbrush and my camera. Yes, that’s right, I did not take my camera with me. I was able to buy an inexpensive toothbrush but the camera was probably the biggest fail. So, I’m left with only a few camera phone pictures (click on my instagram account link for some snapshots). And, because I haven’t mastered the art of the selfie, there are no outfit pics to share. Vacation epic fail.

I’m still beating my self up over this failure. What did you forget on your last vacation? How has this changed the way you plan for your vacations?
